Driver dead after crashing into road equipment in Salem

Salem, Al (AP)
A driver of a truck that apparently crashed into road repair equipment in Salem early Wednesday was pronounced dead at the scene, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said Thursday.
In a statement from Lee County Coroner Bill Harris, the driver was identified only as a white male.
The accident occurred on a bridge at Wacoochee Creek on Lee Road 379, according to the statement. Jones said that portion of Lee Road 379 had been blocked off for repairs since Monday.
According to the statement, a landowner who was checking on his land near the scene found the accident around 7 a.m. Thursday and notified authorities.
Jones said there was only one occupant in the truck and that the sheriff's office is investigating a possible link between the driver and a series of burglaries and thefts that occurred late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning in the eastern part of Lee County.
Jones also said that deputies believe the vehicle may have been stolen.
The identity of the driver will be released after positive identification and after the family is notified, according to the statement.
