BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP)
Authorities say a federal grand jury has indicted three women on charges of fraud connected to disaster benefits intended for victims of the April 27 tornado outbreak in Alabama.
Federal authorities say indictments charge 31-year-old Libra Nikosha Green of Birmingham; 24-year-old Sabrita Latrice Goodwin of Bessemer; and 44-year-old Evegelin Wilson Coleman of Tuscaloosa with making false statements to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to obtain or attempt to obtain disaster benefits.
In one case, Green is accused of trying to obtain disaster benefits by claiming that she lived in a house in Birmingham that was damaged by the tornado and that her father and infant daughter were killed in the storm. Prosecutors say her claim was false.
It wasn't known Wednesday whether either of the defendants have attorneys representing them.
