Elberta stabbing suspect arrested in Opelika

ELBERTA, Alabama
Minnifield
An Elberta man accused of stabbing his landlord last month has been arrested in Opelika, authorities said.
Trayvis Dontez Minnifield, 21, was apprehended Wednesday morning at his sister’s residence by the Opelika Police Department and the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to Maj. Anthony Lowery, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
Minnifield was picked up on a probation violation warrant, according to Opelika police Maj. Tommy Carter.
Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins said the department’s detectives assisted the Fugitive Task Force, which arrested Minnifield on the Baldwin County warrant for the assault.
Minnifield is being held in the Lee County Detention Center on $500 bail for the probation violation, according to spokeswoman at the Sheriff’s Office there. A hold was also placed on him by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
Minnifield is accused of using a garden tool and a knife in the Aug. 15 attack on 42-year-old Gregory Alan Williams. The men had an ongoing landlord-tenant dispute, according to Lowery. Williams suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken by helicopter to an area hospital. Williams’ condition was unavailable Thursday.
The incident happened near C.C. Road and Comstock Road, northwest of Lillian and northeast of Elberta. Authorities used helicopters and K-9 units to search wooded areas near the crime scene that night but did not locate Minnifield.
Just days before the attack, Minnifield had been booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center on a burglary charge and later released on bail, jail records show.
