Chilton County soldier injured in Afghanistan

CHILTON COUNTY, Alabama
An injured Chilton County soldier is expected to make a full recovery after he took an indirect hit from a rocket-propelled grenade in southeastern Afghanistan on Saturday.
Eslinger
20 year-old Donny Eslinger, a 2010 Jemison High School graduate, is currently being treated at the Kandahar Airfield Hospital in Afghanistan.
Eslinger's mother said that he is currently in a medically induced coma after he suffered from two collapsed lungs, seeping wound, broken leg and shrapnel wounds. He has undergone one surgery to remove his spleen and is expected to be transferred to a hospital in Germany and then to a military hospital in the United States once his condition stabilizes.
Eslinger's father, Seminole County, Fla. Sheriff Don Eslinger, praised the medical staff in Afghanistan.
"His fellow soldiers and the medical team at both Forward Operating Base Bullard and Kandahar Airfield Hospital saved my son's life," Eslinger said. "They're doing a wonderful job."
Eslinger enlisted in the Army in July 2010 and had just returned home for a R&R visit just one week before. This was his first tour of duty in Afghanistan.
