On September 23, 2011 the Dothan Police Department responded to a theft in progress at TJ Maxx which was soon upgraded to strong armed robbery. Police learned two suspects were involved in the incident, the first a juvenile, entered the store and concealed merchandise under his clothing then exited the business. He was confronted by store security members at which time he physically fought store employees. The suspect began yelling to the second suspect, Shonqueze Franklin who joined in the altercation. Police say Franklin pushed one security member and struck the second team member numerous times in the head before both suspects broke away from employees and fled. An alert patrolman in the area saw the suspect vehicle fleeing the scene and began to pursue. The vehicle made several maneuvers to elude and the officer briefly lost sight of the vehicle. While out of the officer’s sight, the juvenile suspect jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot and all stolen merchandise was thrown out of the vehicle into the roadway. The patrolman relocated the vehicle within seconds and performed a traffic stop, taking the driver, Shonqueze Franklin into custody. The juvenile suspect has been identified and a warrant issued for his arrest. Security members of TJ Maxx suffered minor injuries during the incident.
