Wetumpka woman dead after early Sunday morning accident

Montgomery, Al.
An early Sunday morning accident has left a Wetumpka woman dead.
Captain Mark Drinkard of the Montgomery Police Department said Rachel Ryals, 24, of Wetumpka, Ala. was traveling south on Eastern Boulevard when she was hit by another car.
Ryals was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger in her vehicle was taken to Baptist South’s Emergency Room with minor injuries. Drinkard said the injuries were minor and he was not sure whether the passenger had been released from the hospital.
According to information from the Montgomery Police Department, the accident occurred at 3:33 a.m. when Ryals’ silver Ford Focus was traveling south on Eastern Boulevard and was struck by a Ford F250 driven by Kenneth Cox, 52, of Montgomery. The department information also stated Cox was making a left hand turn from the northbound lane of Eastern Boulevard onto Vaughan Road.
According to information, Ryals was entering the intersection when her car was struck on the driver’s side door by the Cox when he was turning onto Vaughan Road. Drinkard said Cox received no injuries.
The accident is still being investigated, but Drinkard said it appears there will be no charges at this time. He also said police are not aware of any drugs or alcohol being involved.
This is Montgomery’s 13th traffic fatality this year.
