Hurtsboro Police Department closing its doors

HURTSBORO, AL
There's a new sheriff in town in Hurtsboro, Alabama.
The city has requested that the Russell County Sheriff's Office take over all law enforcement in the area. The Hurtsboro police station will be now be closing its doors.
The sheriff's office has already set up a precinct in the city, and has been patrolling the area.
"They will no longer have a city police department, they will have a deputy from 8 to 5 in the city and that deputy will work for me for the sheriff's office and we will control them from 8 to 5 as far as policing goes," explained Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor.
The Russell County Sheriff's Department will be hiring to fill that position and the new deputy is slated to start in the next few weeks.
