Suspicious vehicle complaint leads to arrest in meth case

A complaint about a suspicious vehicle resulted in a methamphetamine arrest by the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.
Emily Street Bates, 39, was arrested at an abandoned residence Wednesday on Cullman 594 in Phelan. She was charged with first-degree unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, a Class A felony.
Cullman County Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Betts first found Bates when he responded to a call from dispatch about a suspicious vehicle parked at an abandoned house.
“The vehicle was backed into the driveway when (Betts) arrived at the scene,” said Joey Collier, an agent with the Cullman County Narcotics Enforcement Team. “Deputy Betts called me after gaining consent to search the vehicle because he noticed something suspicious.”
Collier said he and Betts found all the ingredients to manufacture methamphetamine and some finished product inside the vehicle.
Collier also noted that Bates cooperated with law enforcement officials and came into custody without any incident.
