Dothan Police Department respond to an armed robbery (box cutter)at the Hobo Pantry (616 North Oates Street)

Utthera Smith, black female, 31 years of age, of Fountain Street was arrested and charged with First Degree Robbery with bond being established later today.

At 10:25 this morning, the Dothan Police Department responded to an armed robbery at the Hobo Pantry (616 North Oates Street). Officers were on scene quickly and spoke to the clerk who described the incident which police are calling an unusual robbery. According to the store employee, the suspect entered the business and walked to the counter with two products which the clerk totaled. The suspect then swiped a payment card which was declined. When the cashier informed the suspect the card had been declined, the suspect grabbed for the items which had been bagged and stated she was taking them anyways. The clerk grabbed the bag and was holding onto the items until the suspect grabbed a box cutter which was lying on the counter for stock processing. Once in possession of the box cutter, the suspect took the items and left the store. A description of the suspect was quickly broadcast after which an alert patrolman spotted the suspect on Fountain Street. The officer detained the suspect who was then positively identified by store employees. The suspect was transported to the Dothan City Jail and booked on robbery charges.
